
PRESS RELEASE
The Honduran American Chamber of Commerce – AMCHAM Honduras – regarding the recent General Elections held in Honduras, pronounces the following:
1.- The General Elections held on the 29th of November with the participation of the 5 legally inscribed political parties and several independent candidacies, from which Mister Porfirio Lobo Sosa resulted elected as the President of the Republic of Honduras for the period 2010-2014, constituted a veritable civic festivity during which Hondurans exercised their right to suffrage in peace and with a high degree of civism and responsibility.
2.- The massive participation of Hondurans inscribed in the Electoral Census is clear evidence that Honduras wishes to continue living in peace and democracy.
3.- These elections as recognized by the international observers and several friendly governments, took place with transparency, and from the same the winner was the Honduran People, who through its vote delivered an explicit and convincing message of its profound democratic vocation.
4.- Important is to recognize the civic and patriotic attitude adopted by the political parties in deciding to accompany Mister Porfirio Lobo Sosa in the process to harmonize the relations of Honduras with countries and members of the international community. This is evident from the recent trip to San José, Costa Rica, as well as from the support in the integration of a National Unity Government, setting off a National Development Plan and the National Dialogue Process.
5.- Signing and complying with the Tegucigalpa – San José Agreement has propitiated dialogue spaces with the international community. Therefore, efforts should continue with the items pending in order to benefit the Honduran People.
6.- The companies, members of AMCHAM Honduras, are committed with the development of Honduras and reiterate their interest to continue working to strengthen the private sector and pursuing better living conditions for our workers.
