Honduras faces up to the challenge of competitive growth.
Deciding to invest in a country which is not your own is not a simple process. When assessing the factors which determine the success of an undertaking, it is important to keep in mind all the indicators that provide us with a clear view of the situation of the country and the viability of the project to be executed.
In 2003, we were certain that Honduran businesses were starting out on a very important growth course. It was easy to tell that the arrival of multinational companies in the country would bring about a new panorama for Honduran business people and workers.
Evidently, we made the right decision. Over three years of experience on the Honduran market have allowed us to obtain a clear and accurate picture of the needs for training and the new challenges companies face today. Undoubtedly, the Honduran executive has the strength to play in the big leagues and to compete against the new management teams which continue to arrive in the country. One of the factors that makes it possible for them to have access to an increasingly competitive market is knowledge, tangibilized through training as well as the improvement and updating of management skills and competencies.
The country is growing extraordinarily. Port operations have a vast competitive advantage over other regions, such as South America and Asia, to trade with the US. Tourism is starting to be exploited gradually in the different natural paradise spots; agricultural ad textile exports have increased significantly. On the whole, the signs of competitive growth are remarkable.
Business people and executives must accompany this change by training their people to stay ahead of time. Those who stop learning are bound to be left out of the race. Today, as time has become the managerial executioner par excellence, it is necessary to learn as much as possible in the least possible time. We certainly cannot get a day to have 25 hours, but what we can do is optimize the time we have by making the best use of it.
In Honduras, the professional competences of the country’s human resource have improved considerably over the past years. Companies have become aware of the vital importance of having professionals who are up to the challenges that competition imposes on them. People are training, updating their management tools, and optimizing their skills, all of which constitute essential elements to meet the requisites of the big players entering this increasingly competitive, Honduran environment.
